Both thrive in similar arid conditions and can improve soil health. Saltbush provides wind protection and adds diversity to the landscape.

Eucalyptus camaldulensis

River Red Gum has a very extensive root system, and will quickly out-compete Maireana Sedifolia for water and nutrients.

Aphids

Aphids can occasionally infest Maireana sedifolia, particularly during periods of new growth. They suck sap from the leaves, causing stunted growth, leaf curling, and honeydew production, which can lead to sooty mold.

Steps:

    • Take semi-hardwood cuttings from healthy, mature plants in late summer or early autumn.
    • Cuttings should be approximately 5-10 cm long.
    • Remove the lower leaves, leaving a few leaves at the top.
    • Dip the cut end in rooting hormone.
    • Plant the cuttings in a well-draining propagation mix (e.g., perlite and vermiculite).
    • Keep the cuttings moist but not waterlogged.
    • Place the cuttings in a sheltered location with indirect sunlight.
    • Roots should develop within a few weeks. Once rooted, transplant into individual pots.
