Cultivars
Both plants are vigorous spreaders, and planting them together could lead to competition for resources like water and nutrients, resulting in reduced growth and vigor for both.
Similar to creeping phlox, creeping jenny's aggressive spreading habit directly competes with bugleweed for space and resources. Their similar growth forms make them poor companions.
Slugs and snails can feed on the leaves of Ajuga reptans, causing holes and damage. They are most active at night and in damp conditions. Look for slimy trails and damaged foliage.
Aphids are small insects that suck sap from the plant, causing stunted growth, yellowing leaves, and sometimes leaf curl. They often cluster on the underside of leaves.
Steps:
- Divide established clumps in spring or fall.
- Separate the crowns, ensuring each division has roots and shoots.
- Replant divisions in prepared soil.
- Take stem cuttings in spring or summer.
- Remove lower leaves and insert cuttings into moist potting mix.
- Keep the cuttings moist and provide shade until rooted.
