Acacia boormanii
Snowy River Wattle
Acacia boormanii
Acacia boormanii, also known as Boorman's wattle, is a small to medium-sized tree or shrub native to eastern Australia. It's known for its attractive, bright yellow, spherical flower heads and its relatively small size compared to other Acacia species. It has phyllodes (flattened leaf stalks) that are linear to narrowly elliptic, and its bark is often dark grey and somewhat fissured. It is a fast-growing species, drought-tolerant once established, and attracts native birds and insects.

Cultivars

Westringia fruticosa
Coastal Rosemary
Westringia fruticosa
Coastal Rosemary is also drought-tolerant and prefers well-drained soil, similar to Acacia boormanii. The combination creates a visually appealing and low-maintenance native planting.
Eucalyptus camaldulensis
river redgum
Eucalyptus camaldulensis

River Red Gums are fast-growing and very thirsty trees. They would outcompete Acacia boormanii for water and nutrients, especially in drier conditions.

Psyllids

Psyllids are sap-sucking insects that can cause leaf distortion, yellowing, and honeydew production. Severe infestations can weaken the plant.

aphids

Aphids are small, soft-bodied insects that suck sap from the leaves and stems, causing curling, yellowing, and stunted growth. They also secrete honeydew, which can lead to sooty mold.

Steps:

    • Collect mature seed pods from the plant.
    • Remove seeds from pods and soak in boiling water for a few minutes to scarify the seed coat.
    • Sow seeds in well-drained seed-raising mix.
    • Keep moist but not waterlogged.
    • Germination can take several weeks.

Neem oil

Effective against psyllids and aphids.

Potassium Bicarbonate

A natural fungicide that can help prevent fungal diseases that often develop after psyllid and aphid infestations.
